330 BNG units in Lincolnshire
BNG units in Lincolnshire
In partnership with South Kesteven District Council, we are thrilled to have secured a Section 106 agreement for our BNG (biodiversity net gain) units at Boothby Wildland, which will soon be listed on the National Register.
The S106 agreement secures over 330 BNG units in Lincolnshire featuring a diverse mosaic of habitat types, including:
scrub
grassland
lowland meadow
woodland
ponds.
What is BNG?
As an outcome of the 2021 Environment Act, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requires developers of homes, businesses and infrastructure to deliver a minimum 10% increase in biodiversity in order to achieve planning approval. This measurable biodiversity increase comes from habitat creation or enhancements, either at the development or offsite. Habitats created or enhanced for BNG must be managed and regularly monitored for a minimum of 30 years, to ensure the positive benefits for biodiversity are achieved.
More information about BNG can be found in our article here.
What does BNG mean for Boothby Wildland?
We are incredibly excited about this initiative as it not only aligns with our own mission to restore Nature, it also creates an additional funding source to enable our projects – and biodiversity – to thrive.
Nattergal will continue to own and operate the land we allocate for BNG at Boothby Wildland, but crucially, the sale of the ‘units’ will generate vital funding to support nature restoration at Boothby and help transform it into a vibrant habitat mosaic, rich in biodiversity. In short, it’s great news for nature, for Boothby, and for our local community.
A big thank you to SKDC, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, Digg and Co, and Pinsent Mason for their support!
